I made it to the doctors yesterday afternoon just two minutes past my appointment time. When I called yesterday morning to schedule an appointment like my doctor asked me to I was able to get one at 4:30 PM. No problem except that I had to be in Los Angeles at 3:00 PM so only 2 minutes is pretty much a miracle. Hashtag: HolidayTraffic
When I sat down in the waiting room I felt like I was having a low. I checked and my bg was fine. Hashtag: nerves
The nurse called me back in and I made my way into the exam room. “We are going to do an EKG on you again ok?” That worried me since they did one on the 31st because of some chest pains I have been having.
“Sure, can I use the restroom first?” The long drive from LA made for a much needed pit stop. Hashtag: PeePeeDance
When I got back to the room the nurse said, “We are going to do a urine test too.”
I said, “well I just went so I don’t know if I can make that happen now.”
“No,” she said through a smile,” I said a hearing test. And now you know why!”
We both laughed hysterically. It chilled me out.
The EKG came back normal again. BP was normal. All was good. Hashtag: whew
“The doctor will be in to see you in just bit. He has one patient before you.”
I waited. Hashtag: anticipation
“Georgie! No mustache thank God, how are you?” My doctor always knows how to break the ice.
We talked about things, lots of things. He opened my file and wanted to compare my very first lab work with him to this most recent lab test results.
Cholesterol, A1C, Kidneys, Vitamin D, all better. Actually besides the kidneys and A1C (duh) the rest now in normal range! Awesome! My risk of heart attack and heart disease has diminished.
“How does that make you feel Georgie? You are doing great! I am proud of you!” I started crying because of happiness and also because I thought of my dad who died of heart attack at 42. Why could he not have had a doctor like this?
“Everything you can do to improve your health you have done. You’ve lost weight and brought down all the numbers you needed too. You are doing great!” I knew something was coming.
I’m anemic and my testosterone level is about as low as you can go. It could be another auto immune thing but for now I am on testosterone to see if that helps. Not too big a deal.
“The last thing I want to talk to you about is a test I ran that I was shocked came back positive. Because of the chest pains you described I ordered a test to check for blood clots and its positive. Now I do not know where the clot or clots are but we need to find them. Do I think you have a clot in your heart? Or your legs? I just don’t know but we are going to find it and fix it.” Something about the way he talks makes me believe him. I never feel alone. Hashtag: InGoodHands
“So tomorrow I want you to call and get in to see the cardiologist.” He gave me the name of a colleague he trusts and has worked with for years. “I am going to call him tonight and let him know you are calling tomorrow.”
So that is pretty much it. I really went in thinking it was my kidneys and it turns out it is something I did not even consider. Something at least I can say I did not cause which makes me feel better.
The thing is, I am still pretty freaked out.
